Steam Engine Mailbox

This steam engine mailbox will put the finishing touch on your railroad. All the mailbox parts are made of a combination of black ABS plastic, PVC, and metal. It is very durable and will hold up to the weather for a long time. It will not deteriorate. The cab, domes and the box itself can be painted in any of 10 available standard colors or to special colors upon request. The smoke stack can be done in silver or gray. The smoke box will always be done in silver. The balance of the components will be provided in black.

The acorn nuts on the top of the domes are brass. We did not include a regular cow catcher because testing showed the postman would likely knock it off. Your house number can be attached to the cab under the windows if desired. The standard mounting position of the headlight is on top of the smoke box. Optionally, you can request it to be mounted on the smoke box "door" (the front of the mailbox).  Call me to request the headlight to be mounted on the front of the mailbox.

Color Selections

We offer ten (10) standard colors. Not all are shown in the pictures below. The ten standard colors are black, red, green, yellow, blue, gray, purple, pink, maroon, and Pennsy Tuscan Red. Custom colors of your choosing are available at extra cost. Please call to discuss your custom color needs. As mentioned earlier, the smoke box will always be done in silver. The following list of parts can be painted in any of the indicated colors:

Cab - any one of the standard 10 colors; it may be the same or different than the color chosen for any other component
Boiler - any one of the standard 10 colors; it may be the same or different than the color chosen for any other component
Domes - any one of the standard 10 colors; it may be the same or different than the color chosen for any other component
Smoke Stack - Silver or Gray

Assembled vs. Kit

If you order an assembled mailbox, it will be painted at no extra charge and will be assembled. The cab will be assembled but you have to mount it to the mailbox body. Mounting is easily done with two bolts and their nuts. All holes will be pre-drilled. If you prefer, you can purchase the mailbox as a kit. In kit form, the mailbox will arrive unpainted. The sideframes, wheels and cab will be assembled but not mounted. This makes it very easy for you to apply your own paint before finishing the assembly. As you might expect, the kit costs less.

How to Order

If you are ordering the unpainted, unassembled "kit, simply select item MBK from the list below and click "Add to Cart". If, however, you are ordering the painted version of the mailbox, after selecting item MB and pressing "Add To Cart", use the color selection buttons to choose a color for each section of the mailbox. Be sure to press the "Add to Cart" button for each color selection. The colors will show on your order as zero-cost line items. If you need a custom color for one or more of your choices, please call me to discuss your color request before ordering to discuss costs and to make sure we can accommodate you.
